Varsity Football defeats Lincoln in the IHSAA Sectional 44 Quarter-Final

IHSAA Sectional 44, Round 1: Monroe Central 49, Cambridge City Lincoln 0 The Monroe Central football team kicked off sectional play with a dominant 49-0 shutout victory over Cambridge City Lincoln on Friday night in Parker City. The Golden Bears, who evened their season record at 5-5 with the win, earned a running clock for the entirety of the second half after scoring 28 and 14 points, respectively, in the first two quarters to go into halftime with a 42-0 lead. With the game well in hand in the third quarter, quarterback Carson Siekmann found Kyler Bogue open for a 46-yard touchdown play. Nick Hendrickson — who converted all seven of his extra-point attempts on the night — knocked in the extra point to get the score to 49-0, which stood for the remainder of the contest. Monroe Central had 416 yards of total offense in all, including 299 yards rushing — averaging more than 11 yards per carry. Ethan Hunt had an efficient night running the ball, with four carries for 110 yards and two touchdowns, including running plays of 20 and 86 yards, respectively. Bogue had three carries for 84 yards and a touchdown — a 42-yard run play in the first quarter. Caden Dance and Kaden Sullivan also had rushing touchdowns on the night. Siekmann completed 3-of-7 passes for 76 yards and the aforementioned touchdown to Bogue. Dallas Frantz’ only pass attempt and completion on the night was a 41-yard touchdown play to Matthew Constant in the second quarter. Lincoln (0-11) was held to just 158 yards of total offense. Ethan Hunt had a team-best five tackles for the Golden Bears, including a half-tackle for a loss and a forced fumble. Siekmann and Frantz had interceptions in the secondary, while Dylan Painter had two tackles and a sack up front. Dance added two tackles and four passes defensed. Monroe Central advances to take on Hagerstown (4-6), which defeated Union City (2-8), 31-13, on Friday night in Sectional 44 Round 2 action. Next Friday night’s game will have a 7 p.m. kickoff in Parker City.
